FibroScan® 630 Expert: Complete, Non-invasive Solution Offers Effective Management and Risk Stratification for Patients with Cirrhosis and Portal Hypertension

Given the significant increase in potential cases of liver cirrhosis due to non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) and alcoholic liver disease, clinicians require a cost-effective, non-invasive modality for screening and patient management.

Echosens now offers a cutting-edge addition to the FibroScan® family of products: FibroScan® 630 Expert, a complete non-invasive solution that provides effective risk stratification of patients with advanced chronic liver disease and portal hypertension (PH).

This advanced tool takes liver disease management to the next level by offering two new features that will help improve patient care:
> Enhanced ergonomics, advanced features and high-speed processing for optimized exam efficiency
> Expanded clinical capabilities with a dedicated spleen stiffness measurement (SSM) mode and embedded ultrasound guidance system to simplify both liver and spleen targeting.

SSM by vibration-controlled transient elastography (VCTE™) can potentially be integrated as a routine non-invasive marker for management and risk stratification of patients with advanced stages of liver disease. This enables health care providers to assess PH, detect varices, evaluate patient candidacy and determine surgery.

Significance of SSM

Advanced liver fibrosis results in cirrhosis, liver failure and PH, an increase in the pressure within the portal vein, which carries blood from the digestive organs to the liver. This is important given that the number of cirrhotic cases are expected to increase by 163% from 2016 to 2030 to 3.1 million.

Liver stiffness measured by VCTE™ in combination with platelet count can rule out the presence of high-risk esophageal varices commonly associated with PH. Based on the scientific data already available, the measurement of spleen stiffness can be used for non-invasive assessment and monitoring of PH and to detect esophageal varices in patients with hepatitis C virus-induced cirrhosis.

Clinicians can utilize the FibroScan® 630 Expert to assess the risk of the cirrhotic patients and ultimately adapt care.

Streamlined Workflow

FibroScan® 630 Expert includes game-changing features, including:
> Embedded ultrasound guidance system to guide Liver Stiffness Measurement (LSM) if needed
> Easier targeting of liver with single ultrasound localization probe for more rapid and accurate measurements and reduction in operator error when working with complex or obese patients

Studies show that these augmentations have led to improved exam success rates—up from 76% with the previous version at SSM@50Hz to 92.5% SSM@100Hz1–and demonstrate “good performance” in determining PH and superior effectiveness at detecting any type of varices.
