During this webinar, Robert J. de Knegt, MD and Raj Vuppalanchi, MD will review the utilization of spleen stiffness as a correlate to noninvasively assess portal hypertension and esophageal varices risk.

About Robert J. de Knegt

Dr. Robert J. de Knegt studied medicine at the Erasmus University Rotterdam. After graduating in 1987, he worked on his thesis about hepatic encephalopathy (1993) and started his training in internal medicine at Westeinde Hospital, the Hague and Leiden University Medical Center, the Netherlands.

After, he continued his medical training in Gastroenterology & Hepatology at Groningen University Medical Center, the Netherlands where he worked as a staff member on the liver transplant team until 2003. In 2003 he started as a consultant in the Erasmus MC University Medical Center, Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

Dr. de Knegt’s interests include viral hepatitis and abdominal sonography.

 

About Dr. Raj Vuppalanchi

Dr. Raj Vuppalanchi is a Professor of Medicine at Indiana University School of Medicine. He joined the division in 2007 after completing dual fellowships in Clinical Pharmacology and Gastroenterology-Hepatology from Indiana University School of Medicine.

His clinical and research interests are in the areas of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), cholestatic and autoimmune liver disease (PSC, PBC, and AIH), biomarkers of fibrosis (transient elastography), and novel therapeutics for various liver disorders.

Dr. Vuppalanchi has expertise in the hepatic safety of drugs as well as herbal and dietary supplements and serves as a clinical investigator for industry and NIH-sponsored (NASH CRN and DILIN) multi-center clinical trials. Additionally, he serves as the primary investigator for the Indiana CTSI phase I clinical trials in the hepatic-impaired patient population.
